Fête de la Musique Berlin on 21st June
Our Focus District in 2020 is Berlin Mitte
This year, perfectly timed for our anniversary, and in keeping with the location of our kick-off event, the Fête de la Musique’s focus district is Berlin Mitte. Following on from Lichtenberg and Treptow-Köpenick, we’ve chosen this historic year to move things into the city centre. We’ll be singing all together once again on the Gendarmenmarkt, and inviting the great variety of event locations from the area – as well as Mitte’s movers and shakers – to show us what the area has musically to offer. And there’s even a plan to turn Friedrichstrasse into a pedestrian zone for the day!
25 Years of the Fête de la Musique Berlin!
Yes, this year is a big anniversary year: the Fête de la Musique Berlin will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2020, with a great big day of music on Sunday the 21st of June – and a brilliant kick-off concert on the 20th June in the Centre Français de Berlin in Müllerstrasse in Wedding. In 1995 Berlin’s very first Fête de la Musique took place, with the Tempodrom in Tiergarten as main location, and the superstar Khaled from Paris as guest of honour.
Europe-wide singalong and flash mob on 21st June on the Gendarmenmarkt
25 years after its start in Berlin, the Fête is organised by thousands of music fans: highly engaged people who as a general rule offer their time and energy for free, and who ensure that over 800 acts get to play on the day to audiences of over 100,000 people.
After the huge turnout in 2019, we’re looking forward to more than 3,500 people once more coming together on the Gendarmenmarkt for our Europe-wide singalong!
