The “Bolschewistische Kurkapelle Schwarz–Rot“ was founded in 1986 in East-Berlin as part of the counter-cultural and political underground scene, a few years before the fall of the Berlin Wall in November of 1989.
It is not only a band, but also a social project that seamlessly and unapologetically fuses traditional brass and folk music with rock and punk. The band has been involved in many of the social and political issues, which have enveloped and changed Berlin and Germany over the course of the last three decades.

Almost twenty musicians from various backgrounds, such as film, philosophy, agriculture, theatre, construction, politics, engineering, teaching and medicine have all participated in the project. They are a unique collective of artists and a musical family, in which the highest priority lies in the well-being of the members.
Their sound is energetic and wild, and at the same time smooth and groovy. Drums, guitar, several trombones and trumpets, French and baritone horn, numerous saxophones, clarinets, multiple vocalists and the tuba – to keep them on beat – come together effortlessly to form a unique sound.
